Myrrh Essential Oil Prepared by Solvent-free Microwave Extraction and its Application in Tobacco Flavoring

  • The Myrrh essential oil was prepared with solvent-free microwave extraction method. Its physical properties were measured, the main functional groups were identified and the major components in the essential oil were analyzed by GC/MS.The application of the essential oil in tobacco flavoring was evaluated. The results showed that:1) The optimal extracting conditions were:grinding to 40 mesh, soaking for 3 hours, microwave power 800 W and extracting time 21 minutes, under which the yield of the extract was 3.95%.2) Sixty-two compounds were identified in the essential oil, including isolindestrene,curzerene,lindestrene,α-cedrene and β-elemene,etc.3) Myrrh essential oil could modify and improve cigarette smoke, reduce offensive odor effectively, enhance smoking taste and aftertaste, and reduce irritation.
