Effects of Cultural Practices on Growth, Development, Yield and Quality of Burley Tobacco

Abstract
The cultural factors, such as circular barking, topping, number of leaves, N application rates and harvesting manner were studied with orthogonal experiment in Jianshi county. The results showed that harvesting manner was a major factor affecting yield, the highest yield was obtained by priming and the lowest yield by stalkcutting;N application rates of 12.5 -15.5 kg/667m2 was a key factor affecting output value;the root development was significantly restrained by circular stalk barking after topping at early flowering stage, and the nicotine content decreased accordingly. The best cultural practice was 24 leaves, topping at early flowering stage and circular stalk barking at root base, N application rate of 12.5 kg/667m2 and harvesting by priming, and the better was 22 leaves, topping at early flowering stage and circular stalk barking at root base, N application rate of 14kg/667m2 and priming before stalk-cutting harvesting.
