Relationship of Total Acidity of Tobacco Leaf Aqueous Infusion with its Stalk Position, Color and Grade

  • The total acidity and pH value of aqueous infusion of 88 kinds of flue-cured tobacco were measured. The results showed that:1) the total acidity or pH value of aqueous infusion of same grade of tobacco leaf grown at different areas was different;2) the total acidity of aqueous infusion of upper leaf was the highest, followed by cutter, and that of lower leaf was the lowest;3) the total acidity of aqueous infusion of leaves from the three stalk positions displayed no evident correlation with their grade and color;and 4) the total acidity of tobacco leaf aqueous infusion increased with the increase of leaf thickness.
