Changes of Free and Total Alkaloids in Tobacco during Conditioning, Casing and Drying Processes

  • In order to optimize the processing parameters of tobacco primary line and control alkaloids in cigarette properly, the free and total alkaloids in tobacco during loosening and conditioning, ordering and casing, and drying were analyzed by capillary gas chromatograph with hydrogen flame ionization detector. The results showed that the free and total alkaloids in tobacco during conditioning, casing and drying were reduced by 2.7% and 5.0%, 4.9% and 7.1%, 8.3% and 13.9%, respectively. The reduction of free and total tobacco alkaloids totaled over 15% and 25% after these processes.
