Separation and Purification of Benzo(a) pyrene in Cigarette Mainstream Smoke

The separation scheme of benzo (a) pyrene (BaP) in cigarettes mainstream smoke described by J Dumont was improved by replacing NH₂ Sep-Pak cartridge with SPE cartridge and optimizing ultrasonic extraction time.The factors affecting the separation of BaP such as washing the extract of cigarettes smoke condensate with acid and alkali solution, the flow-rate of eluant through the SPE cartridge and ultrasonic extraction with acetonitrile were discussed. The BaP in cigarette smoke was determined by the modified method.The results showed that the separation effect of BaP was obviously improved and the determined value was agreed with other domestic reports.
