Effect of Packaging Materials on Aging of Flue-cured Tobacco Lamina

Effects of packaging materials, plastic bag and kraft paper, on aging of Fujian S04-98 flue-cured tobacco lamina were studied. The results showed that:1) the appearance of the lamina packed with kraft paper was better than that with plastic bag; 2) in the lamina packed with plastic bag, the content of reducing sugar was significantly reduced, the contents of nicotine and total volatile base were slightly decreased, while the content of total volatile acid was considerably increased; 3) the changes of these chemical components in the lamina packed with kraft paper were contrary to those packed with plastic bag; 4) the pH values of the laminas were rarely affected by packaging materials during aging process; 5) the smoking quality of the lamina packed with kraft paper was better than that packed with plastic bag.
