Determination of Menthol in Filter, Filler and Smoke of Cigarette

Using ethanol as a solvent and n-propyl benzoate as an internal standard, the content of menthol in filter, filler and smoke of four brands of cigarette was determined by capillary gas chromatography.Menthol in filter and filler of four brands of extra low tar cigarette was compared.The precision and accuracy of this method were also determined.RSD of the method was about 0.24% to 0.86% and average recovery was almost 100%.
