Selection of Transgenic Tohacco Cultivar 8611 Highly Resistant to Insects

The resistance to insects of the transgenic tobacco cv 8611 expressing CPTI gene was tested.In comparitson with the control,mortality of the insects feeded on transgenic plants 8611.6 and 8611-11 reached 50% and 40% respectively,and the growth the:urvived insects were remarkeably inhibited.Under field condition,the in sects-damage index of progenies of 8611-6 and 8611-11 averaged 63.5% and 69.3/15 days after inoculation,averaged 37.7% and 39.8% 25 days after transplant,while that of the non-transformed control were 93.7% and 57%。these results demonstrated that it was possible to obtain insect protection in transgenic tobacco expressing CPTI gene.
