Abstract
For clarifying the quality characteristics of yellow sun-cured tobacco from different origins, the routine chemical components and smoking quality of tobacco samples from Hubei, Hunan and Guangxi growing areas were analyzed and evaluated. The results showed that their chemical components differed obviously. Guangxi tobacco leaves possessed the highest contents of total sugar, reducing sugar and nicotine, while Hubei and Hunan tobacco leaves possessed the highest contents of chlorine and potassium, respectively. Their smoking quality and style differed significantly. Generally, Hunan yellow sun-cured tobacco offered seasoning type style and volatility, it was suitable for being used as seasoning material. Guangxi tobacco offered obvious flue-cured tobacco-like style with fresh aroma note. Hubei tobacco offered some flue-cured tobacco-like style, but poorer combustibility.
