Design and Application of.NET-based Sigma Level Assessment System for Production Process

Abstract
At present, there is still no complete information platform to provide support for the assessment of sigma level of production process in cigarette factory, the test process is time-consuming and apt to make erroneous estimating results. Therefore, according to sigma level measurement model of cigarette manufacturing, on the basis of existing Computer Integration Manufacturing System(CIMS)in the cigarette factory, by adopting.Net development tool and Proficy Plant Application software platform of GE Corporation, a real-time data collecting and analyzing system was constructed. Products were classified according to their compositions and their sigma levels were separately estimated, upon which the sigma level of whole factory was derived. The application results of this assessment system in Qingdao Cigarette Factory showed that the sigma level of the factory increased from 3.05 in 2008 to 4.03 in 2010 due to the effort of its quality control sector, which strengthened process control by referring to the calculation results of the assessment system. It proved that the system is useful for the factory to improve and enhance real-time quality control.
